Welgemeend is proud to welcome one of  South Africa’s leading young pianist, Gerhard Joubert on Sunday 12 September 2021 at 12:00.

Gerhard will perform a varied program including works by Mozart, Bach, Prokofiev and Chopin.

Limited ‘in person’ tickets are available at R200 per person and guests are invited to a enjoy a glass of wine and refreshments after the recital, and to view the 60/360 exhibition from the Kilbourn Collection.

Gerhard Joubert is a 2nd year BMus (Performance) student at UCT, mentored by the pianist François du Toit.

He has appeared as soloist with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra four times and is a laureate of several national music competitions, including first prizes in the Johann Vos Piano competition and Pieter Kooij Music Competition for all instruments.

Earlier this year Gerhard gave a lunch-hour concert at the Baxter Concert Hall. Beverley Brommert wrote an excellent review and says Gerhard Joubert – a talent to watch in the future – has a readiness to take on challenges and explore the path less trodden in quest of beauty.

In May/June 2021, Gerhard played the piano as part of Cape Town City Ballet’s production of Les Sylphides at Artscape. Alone in the orchestra pit, he played the music of Chopin to accompany the dancers.

At the 2018 National Hennie Joubert Piano Competition in Stellenbosch, he was awarded the silver medal as well as two special prizes for the best performance in the third round and the best performance of a Classical Sonata. For the National Youth Music Competition in October 2019, he was awarded the silver medal along with other special prizes.

He was a member of the Drakensberg Boys Choir from 2011 to 2014, travelling Europe, South Africa and Namibia and performing as a soprano soloist with the choir.

Gerhard is also passionate about nature conservation, cross-country running, tennis, literature and mathematics.

Strict Covid Regulations will be adhered to and masks are mandatory.
