Join us for a panel discussion, Unexpected Synergies: Exploration and Collaboration in Design Practice, where leading design professionals will explore the dynamic interplay of creativity and partnership in their work.

Panelists include: Jan-Heyn Vorster from Malan Vorster Architecture Interior Design, Philippe van der Merwe of Tonic Design, Frances van Hasselt of Frances vH Mohair Studio & Vincent Truter from Always Welcome Agile.

This engaging session will delve into how cross-disciplinary collaborations can drive innovation, uncovering the hidden benefits and challenges that arise when lesser-known and unexpected design perspectives and materials converge.

Philippe van der Merwe is a Partner and Designer at Tonic which operates from a former heritage home in Johannesburg, where a highly specialised team works across a range of disciplines, both in product development and interior programmes. They have a collective fascination with pottery, objets, art and antiques, many of which we keep on display to inspire and inform their work. “The way an object or space makes one feel is as important as its function. Our work operates on multiple levels at the same time – it’s about creating something with utility as well as meaning.” https://tonicdesign.co.za/

Frances van Hasselt is a creative entrepreneur focusing on mohair textiles in South Africa. She collaborates with a team of women artisans in the Karoo, weaving a story about the origins of textiles, simultaneously allowing the natural environment to inform every aspect of their design and making process. Frances will share a recent project, the Botterblom Collection done in collaboration with the Frances vH Mohair Studio. https://www.francesvh.com/

Jan-Heyn Vorster is the co-founder and principal designer at Malan Vorster Architecture, Interior Design, where he brings a refined and thoughtful approach to contemporary design. With a keen eye for detail and a commitment to creating spaces that blend innovation with timeless appeal, Jan-Heyn has established a reputation for delivering exceptional architectural and interior design projects. https://www.malanvorster.co.za/

Orlando Vincent Truter is an experience designer and creative director that creates spaces & experiences that ground people in deeper connection within & without. In his support of Always Welcome Agile he facilitates collaborative design projects that explore real world challenges & unknown African perspectives through objects and spaces. www.orlando.studio , www.alwayswelcome.store
