Welgemeend Concert Series: “Synesthesia” with Elinor Speirs
Wednesday, 19:00 to 22:00
21st August 2024

Elinor Speirs, one of the foremost violinists in improvised music globally, presents Synesthesia in collaboration with Welgemeend August Art Month and Concert Series.
Synesthesia, the phenomenon of sensory crossover where music is seen or colour is heard, is a set of immersive performances where audience members are invited into real time synesthetic experiences where artworks, words, music and wine are spontaneously internalized and recreated in musical form.
For more than a decade Speirs has been innovating in the fields of improvised music and interdisciplinary arts. Synesthesia marks a convergence of her pioneering work using art (100 Painting Interpretations) precomposed music (Deconstructing Bach) words and personalities (SCHØN Konferenz) dance and visuals (IMMERSE) as raw material for fresh improvisations performed and constructed in real time before a live audience.
For this iteration of Synesthesia, Dr Speirs’ performance will include spontaneous responses to artworks displayed under the theme “(On)bekend/(Un)known” from the Kilbourn Collection as well as movements from Bach’s E Major Partita and wine from Jakob’s Vineyards.
