Join a Walkabout with Frank Kilbourn and Sean O’Toole – August Art Month Highlight
As part of the August Art Month, art lovers are invited to an interactive walkabout with art collector Frank Kilbourn. This special event offers a rare opportunity to gain insight into Frank and Sean’s curatorial process, as he shares personal reflections on the artworks, the artists behind them, and the broader relationships that shape the Kilbourn Collection.
This year, Frank has invited respected art journalist and writer Sean O’Toole to co-curate the exhibition IN EN OM ONS | IN AND AROUND US. Together, they will lead the first walkabout on Saturday, 9 August 2025 at 10:00, offering attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the development of the show and a deeper understanding of its central themes.
“It is a great pleasure to think and play with the Kilbourn Collection, an encyclopaedic collection of South African art assembled with great enthusiasm over many years,” says Sean O’Toole. “In developing the exhibition, I returned to a first love, photography, of which the Kilbourn Collection holds a surprisingly diverse amount. In en Om Ons | In and Around Us looks at how photography – introduced to the Cape in 1846 – has reshaped ways of seeing, recording, and representing the world.”
